Lazing Hippos

In summer I would not mind joining them, but this winter day, no way!

I could gaze at these fans forever

A simple 'happy' toy, that revolves in the slightest breeze.

The good ol' 'pottalam'

This was how provisions used to be packed by the friendly neighbourhood grocer. An environmentally sound practice which we urbanites have nearly forgotten. This kind of simple packaging (just a neat newspaper folded in the shape of a cone, then tied up with jute string) can still be found in rural groceries.
Perhaps we should go back to the past to give ourselves a better future?

Water chestnut - 'singada'

Singada - water chestnut. Has a mild taste, I found, when I saw it for the first time in a busy Delhi market. Found it different from the made-in-China looking blemish less fruit varieties, that looked more like show pieces rather than health food!

Thirsty bovines

At a cousin's place in Thanjavur town in South India, a couple of bovine visitors know that they can quench their thirst anytime. The vessel at the gate is replenished with care by the family.

Temples for the Four Brothers

In Kerala's Trissur District, you can visit the temples of Sri Rama and his brothers (Nalambalam Yatra) at Triprayar, Koodalmanikyam, Moozhikkulam and Payammel.
Whether you see it as a holy pilgrimage or an off-beat tour package, a visit to the temples with their (circular) sanctum sanctorums, temple tanks, architectural features and peaceful ambience will leave a lasting impression.
Another set of four temples for the brothers is located further south in the Kottayam district.
