Born and bred in the city, and guilty of contributing to a city's woes, I always look forward to visiting rural areas and villages. In this year's summer sojourn to Kerala in South India, a walk through riverside overgrowth revealed some 'secrets'. Ha! (it's open knowledge for natives, but to me it was new).
I invite you to tickle your grey cells and identify what's pictured above. There's a hint (of sorts) in the picture below.

Most had identified right, at least by name. That intricately networked fibre is the xylem of the ridged gourd. (the sponge-like brush made from mesh-like fabric that comes with shower-gels is also called luffa / loofah though). Here is a picture showing half-dried gourds the soon-to-be organic luffas.

It's probably just my aging gray cells or the lack thereof, but I'm not sure what this is although I find it fascinating and I am curious! Great shots! Hope you'll give us a clue later ;) Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteA sponge?
ReplyDeleteThey remind me of the loofahs that used to grow near my house when I was a boy.
ReplyDeleteI was going to guess a cocoon of some sort, but after your hint, I'm leaning more towards a loofah plant. I've never seen one, but this looks similar to what I use in the shower and I read once that it was made out of the inside of a gourd like vegetable.
ReplyDeleteSponges I think so too
ReplyDeleteit does look like a loofah. very cool post.
ReplyDeletemy entry is here: http://ewok1993.wordpress.com
I was thinking pot scrubber (the green one, particularly) but I can see loofah also. I had no idea there was a loofah plant, however.
ReplyDeleteIf not kitchenware, I would guess owl pellet, or something similar.
I have no idea what this is, but I'm curious and awaits your answer. Something that looks similar lives in my bathroom.
ReplyDeleteNatural brush
ReplyDeleteSpaghetti grows on spaghetti trees and thouse beautiful specimens are commonly available in any good chemist, they are ideal for scrubbing your back and are of course loofahs.

ReplyDeleteI wonder what they are. They sure looks like sponge.
